Milton Downing - Artist

Jux-T is the foundation of creativity:   Spontaneous thinking in congruence with mechanical precision to fuse an assemblage of elements. Painting a Factual reality that moves the mind. Fabric enhancements bring the work to life. Fun to create, yet, not always displaying a pleasant truth.

Jux-T was created by Milton M. Downing. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in Philadelphia, PA., where he attended Dobbins Voc. Tech High. Milton earned his B.F.A. Graduate of Temple University-Tyler School of Art, and Masters Science in Art Education from Delaware State University.

Milton began his career teaching middle school students in Camden, NJ. There he received the Governors' Teacher Award for outstanding Instructors. He retired from 38 years of teaching in the public school system in 2021. Milton received Teacher of the Year award while working at Mt. Pleasant Elementary in 1998 and Hanby Elementary in 2010. In 2014, he was awarded Delaware Art Teacher of the Year in Elementary and secondary in 2020. As an Art instructor at Christina Cultural Arts Center, he was given the Imotep Award for dedication and creativity. He also won Teacher of the year in 2019-20 in his first year at A.G.Waters in Middletown DE. He served on the board of the Everett Theater and Gibby Arts Center in Middletown, DE and as Art Director at CCAC in Wilmington.

Milton Downing'a Art has been on display in various exhibits in the Tri-State area and can be found in many private collections. He has had many solo shows including at the Biggs Museum in Dover, De. There have been many influences in his style of art including High School teachers, Mrs. Waterfall, Mr. Bonelli and DSU professor Roberta Tucci.
